Chrissie Boughey holds the positions of Dean, Teaching and Learning and Director, Centre for Higher Education Research, Teaching and Learning (CHERTL) at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. CHERTL hosts a number of programmes aimed at the development of academic staff including the Mellon Accelerated Programme for Staff Development and a doctoral programme in Higher Education Studies. CHERTL's work with the development of young academics encompasses their development in the disciplines, their development as teachers and their development as writers and researchers.
As well as working with staff at Rhodes University, Chrissie Boughey is involved in a number of national initiatives aimed at the development of young academics including the SANPAD Research Capacity Initiative. Her own research interests focus on social inclusion and discrimination in higher education and particularly on the provision of 'epistemological access' to the university.
