Biographical Sketch: Biko GWENDO

Biko Gwendo is a consultant for the Ford Foundation's Office for Southern Africa. He joined this office in 2007. In his current role he supports the foundation’s participation in the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa as well as the Africa Higher Education Initiative. Prior to this engagement, Biko was a Program Officer for the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program in Uganda, and was based at the Association for the Advancement of Higher Education and Development (AHEAD) in Kampala, Uganda. Biko has also consulted for the Ford Foundation Office for Eastern Africa based in Nairobi.

He has a keen interest in student development, and has served in various related roles including as Vice Chairperson of the Catholic University Student Union in 2001. In 2006, he co-edited a book illuminating students’ experiences at East African universities.

Biko is a recipient of numerous academic awards including the Commonwealth and NORAD fellowships. He is a graduate of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa – BEd. (Hons), and is also currently undertaking the NORAD sponsored Higher Education Masters in Africa at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa.
