Désirée Simonis is a Member of the Board of HERS-SA, a non-profit organisation registered in South Africa. HERS-SA was founded to address the critical shortage of women in senior positions in higher education in South Africa and has been providing professional development opportunities for women for 9 years. Over 900 women from South Africa and other African countries have participated in HERS-SA programmes.
Désirée holds a LLB degree from the University of Stellenbosch and an Honours degree in Gender Studies from the University of South Africa. She is a qualified attorney and has 16 years experience in the higher education field as a lecturer in the Law of Contract and Labour Law. Desiree has specialised in issues of gender and equity throughout her career in higher education with specific focus on employment equity and sexual harassment.
