Biographical Sketch: Olufemi BAMIRO

Prof Bamiro is a member of staff of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria and also the current Vice-Chancellor of the University. He has over 33 years of teaching and research experience in the areas of mechanical engineering, science and technology policy studies, software development, and environmental impact assessment. He is the coordinating author of the Evans Introductory Technology Series widely adopted in Nigeria for the Junior Secondary Schools and Colleges. In the area of science and technology policy studies, he has served the nation in several capacities: Secretary of the 24-man Panel that produced the Energy Policy for Nigeria in 1984; Member of the 6-man Committee that prepared the blue-print for the implementation of the National Science and Technology Policy for Nigeria in 1987; Coordinator of the Science and Technology Sector Study of the Nigerian Perspective Plan conducted for the National Planning Commission of Nigeria in 1994; and currently UNESCO Consultant for the on-going UNESCO-sponsored Reform of the National Science, Technology and Innovation System in Nigeria. His work on industry research and entrepreneurship in Nigeria led to the publication of the following two highly regarded books on the subject: The Pains and Gains of Growth: Case Studies on Entrepreneurship; and Industry Research on the Applications Software Sector in Nigeria. He is a member of the African Technology Policy Network (ATPS) and member of several professional organizations.
