Biographical Sketch: Attahiru muhammadu JEGA

A product of Bayero University, Kano. Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega was born on January 11 1957, at Jega town of Kebbi State, Nigeria. He attended Sabon Gari/Town Primary School, Jega, 1963-1969; Government Secondary School, Birnin - Kebbi, 1970 - 1974; Bayero University College, Kano (ABU, Zaria) where he passed out with B. Sc. (Hon) Political Science (Second class Upper Division) in 1978. Professor Jega went for Postgraduate Studies at Northwestrn Univesity, Evanston, Illinois, USA in 1980 where he obtained his M.A., Ph.D, (Political Science) and Certificate in African Studies in 1985.

He was past appointed a Graduate Assistant at BUK in July 1979, where he rose through the ranks to become a Professor in October 1997. In addition to his teaching and research schedule, Professor Jega served in various capacities, before becoming the Vice Chancellor in Septemer 2005, including:

* Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), September, 1995 to November 1996.
* Director, Center for Demographic and Training.
He also served in the following the University Committees: The Senate, Senate Business Committee, Committee of Deans and Directors, University Research Commettee and Academic Staff Development Committee.
Professor Jega served in bodies and committees outside the university system, among which includes: Chairman Governing Board of National Youth Service Corps, Presidential Committee on the Assessment and Monitoring of the MDGs, and Political Reform Committee.
As an academician Professor Jega has a number of publications which he authoured in Education, Politics, Governance, Human Rights, Forign Affairs and Democracy, amonth others.He has a number of awards and honours confered on him, including the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) awarded him by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2005.
