Biographical Sketch: Akwasi ASABERE-AMEYAW

Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw holds Doctor of Philosophy degree in Zoology from University of Cape Coast, Ghana, with specialization in Fish biology, Fish stock assessment and Aquatic biology. For the past few years he has developed keen interest in Environmental education and the contextualization of the teaching of science and technology.
He rose through the ranks to become the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana after holding various positions such as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Director, Deputy Director and Coordinator (School of Community Science and Technology), Head (Department of Science Education) Head of Biology Section (Department of Science Education) and Coordinator (Environmental Education). His teaching experience began as a Teaching/Research Assistant (Department of Zoology, University of Cape Coast).
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw has a considerable number of publications to his credit. He serves on various Professional Bodies and Committees as Chairman or Member and has participated in many local and international conferences, workshops and seminars.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw’s experience in fundraising won the following grants for the University. A $2,000,000.00 grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, for five interventions in 2006. His team won Teaching and Learning Innovative Fund (TALIF) grant of $191,000.00 for the Centre for School and Community Science and Technology Studies for the development of contextualized teaching-learning materials and also won €2,400,000.00 grant from NUFFIC for PRACTICAL project in Ghana in 2006. Others include Provision of support to the Office for Institutional Advancement for the development of ¢2billion souvenir investment with +25% return on invested amount and £50,000.00 grant from UNDCP for the Rapid Assessment of drug abuse situation in Ghana.
His hobbies are Gardening; Reading for relaxation and playing Scrabble.
