Travel
Participants are requested to arrive on Saturday, November 22. There will be a Reception at 6:00 pm on Saturday. The full program starts at 9:00 am on Sunday, November 23 and ends at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 25.
The Partnership for Higher Education in Africa (PHEA) will cover the costs for most of the participants. The Institute of International Education (IIE) will arrange international flight tickets to the conference and cover miscellaneous expenditures and visa fees. IIE will also provide insurance coverage for all participants traveling with IIE assistance. Alec Rowe of IIE, arowe@iie.org, will be in contact to facilitate travel arrangements.
Visa Information
Citizens from most countries require a visa to enter Ghana, although it may be issued gratis.
Entry/exit requirements
A passport, visa, and evidence of a yellow fever vaccination are required.
Nationals of the following countries are exempted from obtaining Entry Visa to Ghana when traveling from their home countries. If your travel originates from a country other than the country of your citizenship, you are required to obtain a gratis visa.

- Benin
- Burkina Faso
- Cape Verde
- Cote d'Ivoire
- Gambia
- Guinea
- Guinea Bissau
- Mauritania
- Niger
- Nigeria
- Senegal
- Sierra Leone

- Nationals of KENYA, MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE, EGYPT and HONG KONG Special Administrative Region.
- Holders of GERMAN and CUBAN Diplomatic/Service Passports.
Gratis visas may be issued in respect of nationals of the following countries:
- Botswana
- Lesotho
- Malawi
- Tanzania
- Swaziland
- Uganda
- Zambia
- Zimbabwe
Citizens of other countries
Inquiries should be made at the nearest Ghanaian embassy or consulate.
Traveling from the US
Travelers should obtain the latest information and details from www.ghanaembassy.org or ghanaconsulatenewyork.org/pages/visa_services.html
If applying through the Consulate of Ghana in New York, you are required to complete the online visa application at http://ghanaconsulatenewyork.org/pages/visa_services.html. The La Palm Royal Beach Hotel can be listed as a reference. Once the visa application is completed and submitted online, you will be informed that your application has been accepted and what you must send in.
Basic application requirements
- Valid Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
- Four studio passport size photographs
- Photocopy of round trip ticket or e Ticket card or itinerary
- Copy of Yellow Fever Vaccination card
- A Letter of Invitation which will be sent to you from the University of Ghana via email or fax
- Payment for visa fee
Visa fee requirements
Personal and Company checks are not acceptable. Visa fee may be paid in: Money order, Cashier's check, or Certified Bank check. Cash accepted only if applying in person.
